About this calculator

Wastage is where a carpenter's margin quietly disappears. This tool takes the panels you actually need to cut and works out a layout that fits them into standard 8×4 sheets with less leftover. Cutting from a plan instead of by eye typically saves a sheet or two on a full wardrobe job — that's real money back in your pocket.

Frequently asked questions

How much wastage is normal in plywood cutting?

10–15% is typical on ordinary box furniture. Cutting without a plan pushes it higher; a good cut layout can bring it under 10%. Curved or irregular work will always waste more.

What is the standard plywood sheet size in India?

8 ft × 4 ft (2440 × 1220 mm) is the standard. Thickness varies — 6, 12, 18 and 25 mm are the common ones for furniture work.

Does the optimizer account for saw blade thickness?

Keep a small margin in mind for the kerf — the material the blade itself removes on each cut. On a sheet with many cuts this adds up, which is one more reason the wastage buffer matters.
